CUIB

CUIB, Timisoara

The proposed park underwent a meticulous planning process, with careful consideration given to each stage. From spatial definition to plant selection, a focus was placed on engaging the senses. Factors such as the aroma of wildflowers, the play of light, ambient sounds and color palettes were all taken into account.
Given Timisoara's historical abundance of oak trees, we made the deliberate choice to preserve the oak as the park's primary tree species. Oak trees are known for their longevity, with some living up to 900 years. Additionally, their fruit-bearing acorns play a crucial role in attracting and sustaining wildlife, thus contributing to the overall ecosystem.
To ensure a seamless transition between the natural and industrial zones, some elements of the industrial world, including its precision, structure, and modularity, were incorporated in the way of arranging the natural features. As a result, the forested areas are organized in a grid-like pattern.
The selection of plant species focused on wild varieties that require minimal maintenance. Meadow areas feature plants such as red clover, buffalo grass, sheep's straw, red straw, and bluegrass. Less frequented areas boast species like poppy, marigold, chamomile, daisy, thyme, pansy, and sheep's straw. In addition to the oak trees, other species such as acacia, red oak, silver birch, and hornbeam are interspersed throughout the park.
The main pathways traverse the park in two directions. These trails pass through various clearings, allowing light to penetrate and creating spaces of different sizes. Clearings also serve as gathering spots and exhibition areas for installations.
Collectively, these design choices foster the development of a thriving ecosystem for small animals and birds while providing a welcoming community space for individuals of all ages.
